Hey there folks. It's been... quite a while. I'm sure most of you reading this have come straight from the Discord, but what I've to say here may peak your interest nonetheless.
It's been... grok, nearly three years since I, in all my power, declared this Wiki as dead. Really doesn't feel like that long ago, but here we are. When I said that, I meant from a community standpoint - with the slight hope that it could be revived a couple of years down the line.
Some of you may be aware that in 2018, a German website reported that Deep Silver Fishlabs were given €400,000 in order to fund what appeared to be Galaxy on Fire 4: Unleashed. This was very exciting news for us, as we thought maybe, just MAYBE that could revive the Wiki somewhat. A triple-A game set in the GoF universe? Heck yeah!
However, we waited... and waited... and waited, for news. 18 months pass by and we hear absolutely nothing from the devs. 2019 comes by and the DSFL website suddenly shows that they were wanting to hire several new team members, which seemed a bit alarming. A new team? New leadership? Halfway through production? What went wrong?
Well, I don't know exactly. However a little over a month ago, out of nowhere a trailer popped up on the DSFL YouTube channel for a new AAA space-shooter with a rogue hero... named Chorus?? What?!
Long story short, I strongly suspect Chorus (Chorvs) is what GoF4 was meant to be. Somewhere along the pipeline, the creative team was switched and the GoF franchise took the toll. This is really sad news if it turns out to be the truth. This is speculation.
As for the rest of the franchise:
- Galaxy on Fire 3D (GoF1) has long been removed from the App Store and no longer supports 64-bit devices.
- GoF2 SD suffered the same abandonment.
- GoF2 HD still works on iOS and Android, but support has been terrible. I'm, er, partially responsible for that.
- GoF2 Full HD for PC/Steam still doesn't, and likely never will, have the DLCs. A half-baked mod exists to bring some Valkyrie elements to the game, but that's it.
- Full HD for macOS is dead. People are reporting faulty downloads from the Mac App Store, and when the app tries to open, it attempts to verify something with Apple infinitely, and never loads. The issue may be solved on macOS Seirra, but this is unconfirmed.
- Some slightly good news here: in the coming months, Macs will begin transitioning from Intel chips to Apple's own silicone (ARM). This means that thanks to macOS Big Sur, iOS apps will be able to run natively on ARM Macs, meaning desktop GoF isn't entirely dead. It's not true Full HD, but it's close.
- GoF Alliances was shut down almost a year ago now.
- GoF3 still hasn't been updated to for the 2018 iPad Pro screens.
- Hey remember Manticore Rising?
So, all that being said, where does this leave the Wiki? The answer: at the finish line. We've done it folks. There is no more GoF content to report on outside of any missing Manticore pages nobody cares about. No new games will come out, maybe ever. The OG dev team now work at Rockfish Games, where Everspace 2 is their current project - and looks like the GoF3 we all deserved. (Side note, it is not a successor to GoF2 or 3. It is its own entity.)
Lastly, the community. We have pretty much all migrated to the Discord server, where we're still pretty active. The Wiki has run its course, so we're having fun on Discord, modding and speedrunning, as well as good old-fashioned screenshotting. Come join us if you're not there already!
I'm glad to have been a part of this amazing Wiki and community. Around this time in 2012, I made my first edit, and I was hooked for a long time. But here's my confession: I'm almost glad there won't be another game. I've grown up, I'm busy, and ultimately just wouldn't have the time or energy to curate an entire game's worth of new content. I imagine the situation is the same for the other mods too. I'd love to see this Wiki go back to the circa-2013 era, but that was long ago, and so much has changed in that time. I'm gonna miss Keith and the crew.
For now pages will still be editable, but depending on the activity here, they may (emphasis on 'may') close down for editing, to protect against vandalism. All the mods from here have left (some are on Discord), so there's not exactly the best security here now.
Thanks to my fellow mods, both current and former, for helping bring Wiki come to life. Thanks to the OG Fishlabs team for endorsing this Wiki on their site back in the day - and Rockfish Games still does to this day! Incredible team. And most of all, thanks to Uggut for creating this Wiki way back in 2010. I wouldn't have made the friends I did if it weren't for him.
So, unless a new GoF property comes out of nowhere, then it's off to new adventures! See you around. I'll continue to be as inactive as I've been for the past couple of years, but if you need my, or anyone else's help, find us on Discord. It's our last outpost.
One last thing, I realise this post is rather simillar to the one I made in 2017, declaring the Wiki dead - however at least then there was a glimmer of hope that we'd be getting a new game. After recent events though, I don't think that will be happening - ever. So long, folks. o7

TL;DR: No new GoF content is coming out any time soon as GoF4 has very likely been entirely cancelled. Thus, the Wiki has run its course. Please join our Discord server where we are still active. Thanks and so long!
